Pastel

This was my latest attempt at pastels...
It was for an illustration project in school. I had to illustrate
"Aunt Matilda was always a bit odd"... (I think that was the line...)
I haven't worked with pastels so this was a very educating experience!
I find it pretty agitating but I know it has to do with my frustration with not knowing the materials. I'm going to do a little more research and some practice before I start another project. If you know of any good videos or books... leave a little note below... ;)

Watterson- Calvin & Hobbes

So this is the latest project I did for my Illustration class.
We had to do a popular figure with supporting characters portraying what they are known for and... make a money design!
Seems silly but I had fun with it. :)

I used microns and a brush to ink it... using LOTS and LOTS of dots! Ack! ;)
I'm not skilled with scanners (as you know) and the original is too big for my scanner. So I made a copy and scanned that... (I'll try to get a better quality pic up).
You can't see much of the detail and some of the black faded in the copy... but I wanted to share.

***
Update! - Watterson is sort of recluse and after Calvin & Hobbes he disappeared from the public.... But,... he's popped up somewhere.... HERE

It's been a while...

Technique/Texture squares

Still Life

Self Portrait from life

The Watchers
(guardians in front of a seascape city)
*Inked with a brush*

Balboa Park Pathway

I promise! I will get better at posting!
In the meantime here are some line drawings I did in class last semester and this semester... :)
I'm still experimenting with the quill pen regarding shading, line control, etc... will post more later...
I have a stack of work I plan on scanning so I may replace these photos as I go along...

Thar Be Whales Here!!!

Here's a little volunteer project I did this weekend for the Dove Library in Carlsbad. As soon as I get more pictures I will upload them so you can see how it was put together. We are promoting their Science Saturday program! Every 3rd Saturday come down to the library and see what we are doing! Or check out my Life Inspired Art Link for Facebook on the left. ;)

PS-- I'm going to show you how to draw these Whales Dec. 18 at the Library... Fun!

*Sorry it's been so long since I posted something... I've been a bit preoccupied with school and other projects...

I'm so flattered.. :)

I just recieved this flier for my upcoming Capturing Dragons drawing program.... They are advertising me on the same sheet as Gurney!!!
How super cool is that! (and a little intimidating)
I'm having a bit of a geek freak-out...
I strongly recommend you check out his blog if you're an aspiring artist... he has soooo much information and he posts everyday!
Oh, and go check him out while he's in Carlsbad. ;)

I'm so neglectful...

Here are a few pics of the studies I've been doing in class...
I'll try to be better about posting stuff... I've just been so busy that I forget to do any posts online!
(They are all studies from other paintings- except for the 2 pairs of eyes painted with just burnt umber.. those are from photos)
If I finish the pinup I'll replace her photo with a new one...
More later... ;)

Coming soon...

*****Update***** Click on pictures to print them out**** Sorry it took so long!*******
**For the fish (not the seahorse) you will need to put your printer settings on landscape... Or else you will only get part of the fish when you print them. ;) **

I will have scans of fish you can print out and color soon....
I have to fiddle with my scanner...
Sorry it's taking so long kids!

(This is a note to all the kids I talked to- at the art classes I taught this past week) ;)
