ArtD 150 - First Post

Frazetta

I have had a hard time getting back into the groove of blogging. So....

I'm getting a kick start with my digital class this semester (blogging is part of the criteria)... this is the first post friends. :)

A little about a Frazetta piece...

Frazetta is one of the influential illustrators I'm drawn to. Most people think of his paintings when they think of his art, but my favorite pieces are his ink drawings. The movement of his line work is what draws me. I believe this is one of the covers for the Tarzan series he worked on. This is about the time he really hit it big in the illustration world. I don't think the lettering is from him so I added just the drawing below. The lettering is a little too distracting from the art.

I love how he curves his drawing so it is moving and flowing. The way he doesn't connect lines is skilled and thought out. I'm also very fond of where he chooses to have the darkest darks and the lightest lights... simple and dynamic. His drawings have weight and movement- he is a skilled draftsman. You can tell he thinks about every aspect of the composition.

    1. Yes, I took a photography class when I was going to an art school in San Francisco.
Also, my father has always been interested in photography so I have played around with it off and on... ;)
Mostly I use my photographs for art reference...
